WHITE LINES: understanding cocaine – its effects, risks, addiction and harm reduction

Course Overview

This course explores important issues around the recent explosion in cocaine use in the UK. Using the latest research, the course examines the changing demographics of cocaine use, key risks to physical health and the impact that regular cocaine use can have on users’ mental health. The training also explores why cocaine addiction has become so prevalent in the U.K.

The course explores the key strategies to help users reduce the harm associated with their cocaine use. The training is suitable for all staff who require up to date information and advice on cocaine and how to support clients who may be using the drug.

What you will learn

  • To explore the history, production and popularity of cocaine.
  • To examine the mechanisms of action of cocaine on the brain and CNS.
  • To clarify why the increased purity and potency of cocaine is leading to increased risks for users.
  • To understand the risks of mixing cocaine with alcohol and other substances.
  • To explore the issues around the increasing popularity of ‘crack’ cocaine.
  • To examine the key indicators of cocaine addiction.
  • To help delegates develop a clear understanding of the key harm reduction advice for clients.

Each participant will receive the course information booklet and a copy of the presentation materials used on the day.

    1. Fully interactively via Zoom enabling delegates to join from wherever they are. The  Zoom training has all the qualities of in person training  – group work, video case studies, Q and A thouroughout – but at a reduced cost and with no travel/accomodation expenses. The course usually lasts from 9.15a.m. to 1.15p.m. for those booking the course for in-house staff training the timings can be adapted to suit your particular needs and requirements.
    2. Face to Face Delivery at your own venue. The timings can be adapted to suit your particular needs and requirements.
