COMING UP ON ECSTASY: understanding MDMA, its risks and how to keep users safe
Course Overview
This course provides a comprehensive overview of current issues relating to the use of MDMA/’Ecstasy’ in the UK. Using the latest medical and social research the course examines the changing patterns of MDMA use, physical and mental health issues, as well as informing delegates on recommended options for harm reduction for clients who are using the drug.
The course is suitable for all staff who require up to date information and advice on current issues relating to MDMA use and how to work with clients who may be using the substance.

- To explore the history, production and popularity of MDMA/’Ecstasy’.
- To examine the mechanisms of action of MDMA on the brain and central nervous system.
- To clarify the legal issues associated with the use and supply of MDMA including the increasing role of the ‘Dark Web’ and social media.
- To understand the risks of mixing MDMA with other substances.
- To explore the issues around the pro’s and con’s of ‘pill testing’.
- To help delegates develop a clear understanding of the key harm reduction advice for clients.
Course materials
Each participant will receive the course information book and a copy of the presentation materials used on the day.
Delivery options
- Fully interactively via Zoom enabling delegates to join from wherever they are. The Zoom training has all the qualities of in person training – group work, video case studies, Q and A thouroughout – but at a reduced cost and with no travel/accomodation expenses. The course usually lasts from 9.15a.m. to 1.15p.m. for those booking the course for in-house staff training the timings can be adapted to suit your particular needs and requirements.
