STUDENTS AND SUBSTANCE USE: drugs, booze and ‘smart pills’

Course Overview

This course, for staff working in universities and further education, examines the changing trends of substance use amongst students and provides practical advice on helping students remain safe – in relation to both students physical and mental health.

As well as covering issues relating to recreational drug use the course also examines the increasing use of Cognitive Enhancement Drugs such as Modafanil and Nootropics. These drugs (often referred to as ‘smart drugs’) are now widely used by students to help them to study for longer, retain information and reportedly improve their cognitive abilities.

The course also clarifies the legal position for university staff with regards to students using or supplying drugs on university premises.
